Hello everyone!! Hope you're all having a good start of the month. At Zhagaram, we're now planning to have a poetry club!! ❤️ and we'd love for you to join us. This is still a rudimentary campaign and we're in the process of seeing if we have enough people interested to actually launch this. But here are some of the details that are confirmed as of now: - Always free and virtual - Meet once every month on the weekend - Meet for any one hour between 10:30 AM to 01:30 PM EST (9PM-12PM) - Members to read one poem they've written and/or one poem from a poet they admire or found on the internet, in a magazine, in an anthology etc (with due credit) - Give each other constructive feedback along with words of affirmation - Members can also join the club just to listen to the other poets, just to read their own work (without getting feedback) or choose according to their will on that particular month. We will be as flexible as possible. - Open to other ideas (let us know what else you'd like!) If you'd be interested but one of these decisions conflict with yours (timings, frequency of meeting) then let us know in the form and we can try accomodate your preferences! Yes, we do consider poems about queer culture, but we look for works that draw parallels to some form of heritage. Basically poems that explore queer culture through a heritage/language based lens. We have a few published examples you can refer in issue 01 .

Dear literary magazines and poets, as a poet myself, I couldn't help but notice that not many people read literary magazines (at least in my circles). The only people I've seen reading literary magazines are writers themselves. The same goes for poetry. I don't see that many people reading poems as compared to novels, even literary fiction. I have been wondering why for long and decided to create a survey for the same. I've been circulating it around as much as I can and was hoping you could do the same. From what I've seen, most people are intimidated by poetry and think it's too complex to 'understand'. Based on the results of this survey, I was planning for some of us lit mags to come together and put together a collection of poems from our own published archives that could encourage people wanting to give lit mags and poetry a second chance. If you're interested please react to this message with a thumbs up so I know and do help in sharing this survey. And if you have any pointers towards questions that would add to the conversation, lmk. Thank you so much!

Thanks for sharing this. I find similar attitudes towards poetry, by readers and writers. I think it might be how poetry is taught in schools and universities.
