I think you're in the clear, since you made the edit available well ahead of time. We put in our submission guidelines that we'll reformat pieces to fit our site's style guide for exactly that reason. At the end of the day, while it's good to listen to author preferences and good to accommodate the ones you reasonably can ... you're the editor and it's your publication. Presentational or design edits like that are your call to make!
