I had a creative writing class in undergrad that opened each feedback session with us coming up with creative ways to murder the writer in question, (I was bludgeoned to death with pickles one time, as I recall) so that we were "dead" the entire time and couldn't speak until the session was over. Our prof explained that it was so that the writer didn't spend the entire workshop defending themself and could learn to take feedback gracefully and impersonally. I actually really liked it. And we all had a turn in the hot seat, so to speak, so it was evenly distributed, not a pile on.
