I'd say timing doesn't really matter unless the reading period is designed to be a flash kind one of - you know, 24 hours to submit, only the first 50 will be read, like that. With our zine, I'll look over pieces as they come in, and sometimes pick one right away, but usually we just wait until the reading period closes to consider everything at once. Reason being, we try to work in thematic aspects to each of our issues, so deciding too quickly would be orthogonal to doing that well. We need to see the entire range of subs.
