Personally I would say the revised version is too clipped; and it has lost the rhythm in the longer version—i liked that touch it was like a conveyor belt delivering metaphors. I mean both ways can work eg compare the lyrics of Counting Crows ‘Murder of one’ an Suzanne Vega’s ‘Small Blue Thing’ 🙂
