It does feel unfair. One of my stories (Schoolyard Bully) wasn't written to be a puff piece. I didn't write it just for fun. It was probably one of the hardest stories I will ever write, because it's MY story. Some details are changed, but the MC is essentially me. I wrote it to make a point about bullying, that words kill. I wrote it so that bullied kids know that they are not alone. To put it on a blog so that I can share it with people, and then be told that a publication doesn't want it is really deflating.
