Yes and no. I can't speak for everyone, but if I see a brief list of publications I might give it a second look, like in a "oh hey this person has been recognized as talented by a few people, am I missing something?" But I get really excited when I see someone has never published and I fall in love with their work--it feels like I get to introduce a really cool person to the world.
