You guys really don't have to overthink it. 99% of our cover letters are like, "Dear Editors, I am submitting TITLE (1,000 words) for your consideration. Thank you for reading!" Then, they paste in a brief bio containing their publishing credits. Writers whose race, trauma, orientation, etc. are relevant to the story often include that info too. ("I'm a queer, autistic single mother.")
