My own cover letters are usually my name, sometimes my ethnicity if relevant to a pub (I'm Latina and occasionally submit to Latinx-themed pubs), the title and word count, some credentials ("my work has previously been published by xyz") and occasionally a "I enjoyed x piece in your latest issue and think this strikes a similar tone" if applicable. It's really not rocket science. And on the editing side I'm fine with just "my name is x here is my story and word count" just don't leave it blank.
