Lol by no means will it guarantee an acceptance, but it’s really helpful to know as an editor (esp if your piece is weird) that you submitted to us on purpose (and again, if your piece is experimental, that you see it as part of a lineage of other things we’ve published before). I see it as a courtesy to let us know we’re someone you’re submitting to us on purpose, intentionally, not just another name on a list of reputable journals.
