So are editors that act like they're God. THAT was the problem, not the answer. I got a very similar answer from a completely different editor, and I was fine with it. One answer was "you'd be nothing without editors". The other answer was, ultimately, "we benefit each other". But inside both answers was "it's an industry standard, and it's a courtesy".
