If that's the answer, then why didn't you just say so, instead of giving me the answer that "without them (editors/publishers) your story may have never seen the light of day"? If you'd said "it's the industry standard", I would have been fine with it. And, like I said in reply to the person who actually gave me that answer, I'd have said "it seems like shared copyright, which I'm fine with."
