I think many of us are somewhere in between. I would love for writing to pay the bills. But I'm realistic about what writing can and can't do and the likelihood of "making it" as a writer. I have friends published by major publishers and they're still broke and working day jobs. The ultra rich and famous writer happens to very, very few. Aproaching writing as a commodity sounds soulless to me. You may as well work in an office. I write because I THINK I have something worth saying and sharing and because I want others to have a voice to their experiences. But I also write because I can't function without it. I'd write if I was the only person left alive.
